Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a picture synthesizer of low cost with a simple constitution by providing a means for controlling the synchronizing signal frequency of a video camera and a selecting means for selectively switching an image pickup signal so as to from a composite picture of the read image pickup signal. CONSTITUTION:In cameras C1, C2, the charges of all the field of a solid-state image pickup element are simultaneously shifted to a vertical transfer part by the pulse of a time t1 and transferred to a horizontal register at the cycle of 1/2H (H:1 horizontal period) vertically. Accordingly, during 1/2V from the time t1 to a time t2 (V:1 vertical period), the reading of the one field of the respective cameras C1, C2 is completed. The period from the time t1 to t2 corresponds to the first half of the one field of a monitor screen. In cameras C3, C4, the reading of the field is executed at the time t2, similarly, during the 1/2V (second half of the one field of a monitor), the reading of the one field of the cameras C3, C4 is completed. Thereby, it is not required to use a picture memory or an analog/digital converter etc., but a simple constitution is obtained.
