Abstract

PURPOSE:To intensify both display contrast and luminance by making the irregularity of the film surface of an insulation layer arranged on a light emitting layer or the film surface of the light emitting layer flat and by forming a metallic layer into a mirror surface. CONSTITUTION:A thin film electroluminescence(EL) element is formed by laminating a pair of electrodes consisting of a transparent electrically conducting layer and a metallic layer 6, and an insulation layer 5 and a light emitting layer 4 interposed between said electrodes in succession on a transparent insulation base board. In this case, irregular surface of the film (a) of the light emitting layer 4 is made flat by spin-coating the layer (a) with an application type insulation film 7 and a back side metallic electrode surface is made into a mirror surface. By making the back side metallic electrode surface into the mirror surface in this way, it is possible to display with high display contrast and luminescence by merely interposing an external light reflection preventing filter.
