Abstract
PURPOSE:To produce homogeneous glass having no anisotropy by covering entire sol with a gelling vessel in a contact state, converting the sol into gel, drying the gel and treating the resulting porous gel at a high temp. CONSTITUTION:Sol 5 prepd. with fine powder and/or alkoxides is injected and filled into the cavity 3 in a split mold 1, 2 made of a hydrophobic material under ultrasonic waves, the injection hole 4 is sealed with a plug 6 made of a hydrophobic material and the sol 5 is converted into gel. The mold 1, 2 is then split to take out the gel, this gel is dried and the resulting porous gel 7 is heated at a high temp. to obtain a glass body.
