Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent beforehand a downfall of a head, and to prevent a data from being damaged suddenly, by monitoring a deteriorated state of a magnetic head and a disk by a detector which is attached to the magnetic head. CONSTITUTION:An interval of a magnetic head 2 and a disk 1 is generally about 0.3mum in a low part. When the deterioration of the magnetic head and the disk 1 has advanced, the surface becomes rough, therefore, a contact starts partially. When the contact starts, a very small vibration is generated in the magnetic head 2, and its vibration is converted to an electric signal by a detector which is attached to the magnetic head 2. The electric signal which is obtained by this detector 3 is amplified by an amplifier 4, and subsequently, goes into a breaker 5, a noise component is eliminated thereby, only a signal component due to a contact of the magnetic head 2 and the disk 1 is fetched, its signal is compared with an output of a reference signal generator 6 by a discriminator 7, and if it is larger than a reference signal, an alarm of an abnormality is outputted.
