Abstract

PURPOSE:To display a guest-host type color on a single display panel by dividing the display area of the display panel into color areas and charging display media which differ in color individually. CONSTITUTION:The space between both substrates 10 and 20 is partitioned into the color areas 41-43 with a partition 30, and those areas 41-43 are provided so as to surround, for example, display electrodes 11 of column electrodes; and the color area 41 is assigned for red display, the color area 42 is assigned for green display, and the color area 43 is assigned for blue display. The display media 51-53 are liquid crystals which provide the hues of, for example, the primary colors R, G, and B and charged in the color areas 41-43. Namely, the display media 51-53 which have the respective hues contact the display electrodes 11 directly, so there is no problem with respect to a color shift. Further, no color filter is used, so a decrease in picture quality due to the mutual interference between the display media 51-53 and the color filter is precluded.
