Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the detection capacity of a flaw, by inspecting a wire rod to be inspected over the total length thereof and passing the wire rod through a detection coil at the almost center thereof. CONSTITUTION:A detection coil 7 having an inner diameter optimizing the gap with a wire material 20 to be inspected is mounted to a feed process and the height thereof is regulated so as to pass the wire rod 20 to be inspected through the almost central part of the detection coil 7. A detection range is set to an eddy current flaw detector 61 according to the detail specifying the wire rod 20 and the flaw generated on the surface of the wire rod 20 is continuously detected through the detection coil 7 to be sent to a signal processor 62. The signal processor 62 processes the signal of a level larger than the threshold value set at every kind of a flaw as a flaw according to the detail relating to the wire rod 20 and counts the number of flaws per a unit wt. or length to classify the kinds of flaws and displays the same on a display means automatically and visibly at each time when the flaw detection of one wire material 20 to be inspected is finished.
