PURPOSE:To improve control precision for an engine by simultaneously making air-fuel ratio leaner and controlling engine knocking to improve fuel consumption, and renewing a corresponding learning value on a feedback quantity of an ignition time when exhaust temperature is within its limit. CONSTITUTION:A signal converting means 2 converts a detecting signal issued from a knocking sensor 1 into a signal corresponding to knocking strength to issue it to a knocking controlling means 3, which controls the knocking on a feedback quantity of an ignition time determined by its deviation from its target value and a learning value of the ignition time. A means 6 for making air-fuel ratio leaner controls the air-fuel ratio to make it change toward a lean side with the knocking control executed simultaneously.
