Abstract

PURPOSE: To product wet patterning cloth manifesting distinct wet patterns in a wet condition by printing patterns on hygroscopic cloth with a water soluble resist, drying the cloth, applying a water repellent over the whole surface of the cloth, heat-treating it and then by removing the resist. CONSTITUTION: The method of this invention is to print patterns such as characters, figures or the like on highly hygroscopic cloth made of cotton, rayon staple fiber, nylon or the like with a water soluble resist (e.g. well-known sizing agent) to mask fibers, followed by applying a water repellent (e.g. a fluorine-based water and oil repellent or the like) over the whole surface of the cloth e.g. by a gravure coating method, heat-treating it to fix the water repellent on the cloth and then removing the printing resist by washing it with water. The processed cloth absorbs moisture in a wet condition and manifests distinct wet patterns such as characters, figures which are not actualized in conventional one.
