Abstract
PURPOSE:To enhance the accuracy of measurement even if the concn. of radioactive nuclide is nonuniform by dividing the concn. of the radioactive nuclide of the radioactive waste housed in a drum can to >=2 concns.; the concn. near the central axis of the drum can and the concn. near the periphery and measuring the same. CONSTITUTION:The packing height of the radioactive waste is detected from a sharp drop in the count rate of an external ray source 22 and the central axis in the detection direction is aligned to the center in the uppermost stage of the vertical division of the drum can 1. The drum can 1 is rotated one turn in succession thereto. The drum can is paused for a specified length of time at every rotation of 60 deg. and the integrated values of counting of Co-60, Cs-137 and the external ray source 22 are determined by germanium detectors 2a, 2b during this time. The 2nd stage of the drum can 1 is similarly measured. The rotation and rise of the drum can 1 are repeated until finally the lowermost stage of the drum can 1 is measured. The measurement with high accuracy is enabled by constituting the method in such a manner even if the concn. of the nuclide is nonuniform.
