Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a magnetic recording medium which is small in spacing loss and has durability by providing a thin ferromagnetic metallic film B exposed with fine particles from the surface on a thin ferromagnetic metallic film A and further providing a thin hard carbon film which is lower than the height of the fine particles on the thin film B. CONSTITUTION:The thin ferromagnetic metallic film A2 is formed by an electron beam vapor deposition method or high polymer sputtering method, etc., on a high-polymer film 1 and the fine particles 3 are disposed thereon. The thin ferromagnetic metallic film B4 having the film thickness smaller than the diameter of the fine particles 3 is disposed thereon. The thin hard carbon film 5 having the thickness smaller than the height of the exposed fine particles 3 is further provided thereon and is so constituted that the tips of the fine particles 3 are exposed onto the thickness adding the thicknesses of the thin film 4 and the thin film 5. Only the exposed fine particles, therefore, slide with a magnetic head. The breakage of the magnetic recording layer is substantially prevented and the exposing height of the tips can be lowered and, therefore, the spacing loss is decreased.
