PURPOSE:To attain a high orientation factor and at the same time to increase the characteristics of recording density for a vertical magnetic recording medium using Co-Cr alloy thin film, by using a specific substrate. CONSTITUTION:Cr is stuck on a nonmagnetic substrate of a film, etc. with a thickness of about 500Angstrom by a vapor deposition method. After this, a soft magnetic thin film layer of permalloy, etc. is formed in about 3,000Angstrom thickness by the vapor deposition method using an electric gun. Furthermore, a Co-Cr alloy layer containing about 18 atom % Cr is formed in about 3,000Angstrom on the soft magnetic thin film layer by a sputtering process.
