Abstract

PURPOSE:To make it possible to effectively print in an emphasized fashion even when the emphasizing frequency of a letter or the like is high, or the degree of the emphasis on a letter or the like is varied, by changing the form and the printing color of the letter in accordance with the emphasizing informations different in the level of the emphasis. CONSTITUTION:Upon receipt of an emphasizing data from a host computer for emphasizing a letter, a control unit 1 outputs a form selection signal S1 for selecting the printing form of the letter corresponding to the emphasizing data and also a color selection signal S2 for selecting the printing color of the letter. A converting table 11 converts the printing mode in such manner, e.g., that when the inputted emphasizing data has four levels, level 0 represents a normal black letter, letter 1 a Gothic black letter, level 2 a normal red letter and level 3 a Gothic red letter, respectively. A data selector 3 selects the pattern data either for normal letter or for Gothic letter in response to the selection signal S1, from a font memory 2. A data distributor 4 distributes the pattern data selected by the data selector 3 either into a black pattern data or into a red pattern data, on the basis of the color selection signal S2. For example, one page of paper which has been printed in black first is overprinted in red.
