Abstract
PURPOSE:To accurately control the number of revolutions of a spindle motor by providing plural slits on the outer periphery of a rotor part and detecting optically a light passing through the slits attending upon the motor rotation. CONSTITUTION:The titled device is constituted of two slits 4, for instance, provided to the outer periphery of the rotor part 1 of the spindle motor as symmetrical against its center axis, a light emitting diode (LED) 2 fitted in contiguity with the rotor part 1 of the spindle motor and a photo diode 3 fitted on the opposite part of the LED 2 across the rotor part 1 to meet the optical axis. Then, the light emitted from the LED 2 reaches the photo diode 3 only when the slit 4 comes in just between the LED 2 and the photo diode 3 by rotating the rotor part 1 of the spindle motor. Consequently, the photo diode 3 outputs two pulses whenever the spindle motor rotates one revolution, and then the number of revolutions of the motor is calculated based on this output. By this method, the number of revolutions of the spindle motor can accurately be performed.
