Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent creaking of brake by providing a vibration suppressing mixed powder layer where copper coating iron series vibration suppressing alloy powder and graphite powder are mixed with a specific ratio between a basic friction material powder layer and base metal then sintering. CONSTITUTION:In a friction material produced by sintering a basic friction material powder layer mainly composed of copper series alloy powder and bonding to a base metal, a vibration suppressing mixed powder layer mixed with 50-95wt.% of copper coating iron series vibration suppressing alloy powder and 2-10wt.% of graphite powder is provided between the basic friction powder material layer and the base metal and sintered. The vibration suppressing layer is provided between the basic friction material which makes frictional function with counterpart material and a metallic support therefor, i.e. the base metal, in order to absorb frictional vibration produced in the basic friction material and prevent its transmission to other members. Consequently, brake noise, i.e. creaking of brake, due to resonance with other parts can be prevented.
