PURPOSE:To manufacture a steel stock having excellent thermal workability by cooling a Cr-Ni base stainless steel in which a value of delta-Fe having a specific component is specified in a limited range down to a specific temp. at a prescribed cooling speed and then heating and working the steel. CONSTITUTION:A value of delta-Fe, included in a Cr-Ni base stainless steel comprising steel components of specific additional elements, is decides so that 5<=delta-Fe.(Cal)<=20. The steel is cooled at a cooling speed of >=5 deg.C/sec up to 50 deg.C after solidification. Then, a Cr-Ni base stainless steel having excellent thermal workability is manufactured by heating and working the delta-Fe without coarsening the delta-Fe. A value of delta-Fe.(Cal) should meet requirements in the equation.
