Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily produce a titled tube at a low cost by packing a high- polymer water absorbent in at least the both tube end parts of an optical fiber inserted wavily into a tube or sticking the same to the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION:After a silicone resin is primarily coated 5 on the quartz glass optical fiber 4 (125mum diameter), an urethane resin is secondarily coated 6 thereon to form the optical fiber 3 having 0.4mm diameter. The fiber 3 and the high-polymer water absorbent 9 consisting of acrylic acid grafted starch, etc., are simultaneously fed by an oscillation packing method into, for example, a steel tube 1 having 1.0mm (0.8mm) outside diameter (inside diameter) and 1,000m length by which the optical fiber containing tube is produced. The need for a spacer is eliminated by packing the high-polymer water absorbent 9 directly into the tube 1. The cost of the product is, therefore, reduced and the surplus length is easily formed.
