Abstract

PURPOSE:To accurately follow a recording track even when a tape speed is changed by fitting double azimuth heads on respectively opposed positions so that two pairs of heads having respectively reversed azimuth angles are accurately opposed to each other. CONSTITUTION:The heads 5a, 5b on an upper drum 3 are accurately opposed by 180 deg. and the heads 5a', 5b' are also accurately opposed by 180 deg.. These heads 5a, 5a' and 5b, 5b' have respectively reversed azimuth angles and unitedly driven and controlled in the tape width direction. In case of rapid research, either one of pairs of heads 5a, 5b and 5a', 5b' is used. In case of slow reproducing or still reproducing, the heads 5a, 5b' and 5a', 5b are alternately used. Thereby, a recording track can be accurately followed even when a tape speed is changed.
