Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled sintered form of stabilized resistivity, by using, as the electrically conductive compound(s), each specified amount of oxynitride of group IVa (except for Ti), Va and/or VIa element. CONSTITUTION:The objective sintered form made up of (A) electrically conductive phase consisting mainly of beta-SIALON or (alpha+beta)SIALON, containing 20-70vol.% of at least one kind of oxynitride selected from those, respectively, of group IVa (except for Ti), Va and VIa elements and (B) grain boundary phase composed of Si, Al, group IIIa elements (including rare earth ones), O, N etc. Thus, this sintered form will have stabilized resistivity ranging from 10<0> to 10<-4>OMEGAcm. The amount of said oxynitride such as to be less than 20vol.% will lead to no stabilized resistivity of little variation due to its sharp increase, whereas in case of >70vol.%, the oxidation resistance, high-strength at elevated temperatures etc. as the features of SIALON itself will be severely impaired.
