Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the titled polymer useful as a water absorbing polymer or a column agent for liquid chromatography, having excellent alkali resistance, by reacting an epoxy group-containing hydrophilic compound under a specific condition. CONSTITUTION:(C) A hydrophilic compound containing two or more epoxy groups is reacted under a condition wherein (A) a nonaqueous organic liquid and (B) a catalyst exist but no dispersion stabilizer soluble in the component A exists to give the aimed polymer. Diethylene glycol diglycidyl ether or polyethylene glycol diglycidyl ether having <=30 polymerization degree is preferably used as the composition B.
