Abstract

PURPOSE:To enhance the saturated magnetization and to reduce its deterioration rate by a method wherein, after a metal compound of nickel or cobalt is added to an oxidizable magnetic powder, this mixture is baked and, after that, it is oxidized while the temperature is raised step by step. CONSTITUTION:A metal compound of at least one out of nickel and cobalt is added to an oxidizable magnetic powder; a pH value is adjusted by using an alkalizing agent; they are mixed in the water. Then, the mixture is filtered; water adhering to a filtered substance is dried; the filtered substance containing crystalline water is dehydrated and is heat-treated. A temperature of the magnetic powder which has been treated in this manner is raised step by step; the powder is oxidized. For this oxidation treatment, several step-by-step temperature levels are decided for a temperature-raising process, e.g. from 40 deg.C to 140 deg.C, preferably from 60 deg.C to 120 deg.C; a heating and oxidation process is executed mainly at each treatment level. The saturated magnatization is enhanced after the oxidation treatment at a low temperature level; a deterioration rate of the saturated magnetization is reduced after the oxidation treatment at a high temperature level.
