Abstract
PURPOSE:To retard the utilization decrease of a negative electrode in high rate discharge at low temperature and to make a battery compact by adding potassium chloride in a negative active material. CONSTITUTION:Potassium ion which becomes relatively insufficient with advance of discharge is added to a negative plate in the form of solid potassium chloride to prevent the excess of lithium ions and the deposite of lithium chloride. Since the increasing rate of lithium ions is proportional to the discharge current, the loading of potassium chloride is increased with increase in discharge current. Since the critical electrolyte composition deposing lithium chloride changes toward lower concentration of lithium ion with decrease in temperature, the loading of lithium chloride is increased with decrease in discharge temperature. Decrease in utilization of a negative electrode in high rate discharge at low temperature can be retarded.
