Abstract

PURPOSE:To facilitate toning into chrome color and also to improve a rust- preventing effect, by applying a laser beam to a molding made of chromium- containing stainless steel sheet so as to increase chromium content in the surface layer. CONSTITUTION:A molding made of chromium-containing stainless steel sheet is irradiated with a laser beam such as YAG laser beam, by which chromium is precipitated in the molding surface to which the above laser beam is applied and, as a result, chromium content is increased. By this method, a color tone in the laser beam-irradiated part can be changed. It is desirable to harmonize the color tone of the molding with those of other moldings by applying the above laser beam, in particular, to the end sides of the molding adjacent to other moldings or by gradually increasing the quantity of laser-beam irradiation toward the above-mentioned end sides.
