Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify the constitution, to accomplish reliable operation and to reduce the occurrence of trouble by connecting main and subsidiary steering means by a push-pull cable and forming the subsidiary steering means by a gear mechanism comprising a rack and a pinion. CONSTITUTION:The first pinion 14 is rotated through a steering shaft 12 by turning operation of a handle 4. Whereupon the first rack 16 is moved in the direction of an arrow, so that the second rack 24 of subsidiary steering means 20 is moved in the direction of an arrow through a push-pull cable 26. With such movement, the second pinion 22 is rotated to turn an arm portion 30 fixed on a support shaft 28. Accordingly, a joint 32 is, as shown by an arrow, moved to the right and left of a car 2, so that rear wheels 8, 8 are steered through rear wheel tie rods 18, 18. The ability of making a small sharp turn can be improved, the operation can be conducted reliably and the life can be lengthened by suitably setting the angular velocity of the second pinion 20, the length of the arm portion 30 and the length of each rear wheel tie rod 18.
