Abstract

PURPOSE:To make prevention of smoke generation compatible with reduction of NOx by controlling EGR quantity at high load as the atmospheric temperature becomes higher in a high speed region and controlling EGR quantity at high load as the atmospheric temperature becomes lower in a low speed region. CONSTITUTION:Detection values of an atmospheric temperature sensor 5, an accelerator opening sensor 7 and so on are input to a central processing unit 8 to control the opening of EGR valve 4 through a solenoid valve 4a. The central processing unit 8 is adapted to decrease the opening of the EGR valve 4 during low speed of an engine and increase the opening of the EGR 4 during high speed of the engine when the atmospheric temperature is low (less than 5 deg.C) according to a detection value of the atmospheric temperature sensor 5. On the other hand, when the atmospheric temperature is high (more than 35 deg.C), the opening of the EGR valve is corrected to increase at the time of low speed, and at the time of high speed, the opening of EGR valve 4 is corrected to decrease.
