Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve workability and heat resistance by using a steel sheet having the specified steel component contg. Cr and Al being a basic material as a substrate and hot-dipping it with fused Al under the specified conditions after pretreatment, cold-rolling, working and heat-treating it. CONSTITUTION:In the case of producing a metallic carrier for purifying exhaust gas, 0.3-5.0g/m<2> (per single surface) Ni is plated on the surface of a steel sheet consisting of by wt.% <=0.1% C, <=2.0% Si, <=2.0% Mn, 9.0-25% Cr, 0.01-6.0% Al and the balance iron and inevitable impurities. Then fused Al or its alloy of the amount specified in the formula I is hot-dipped so that the thickness of alloy of Al and iron formed on the surface of the steel sheet at a time for hot-dipping is controlled to <=7mum. The steel sheet after hot-dipping is rolled to thickness not more than 0.1mm by cold rolling and pressurized so that the area contacting gas is made large and a metallic carrier is formed and finally heat treatment for diffusing Al into the base material is performed.
