Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve heat resistance and to decrease the loss of light transmission by forming a core layer of specific polyarylene ester and increasing the refractive index thereof to the value larger by >=0.01 than the refractive index of a sheath layer. CONSTITUTION:The core layer is formed of the polyarylene ester obtd. by bringing isophthalic acid or the functional deriv. thereof and/or terephthalic acid or the functional deriv. thereof and bisphenols into reaction. Such a transparent material which increases the refractive index of the sheath layer to the value larger by >=0.01 than the refractive index of the polyarylene ester which is the core layer, for example, polymethyl methacrylate, methyl methacrylate or the like is used for the sheath layer. The plastic light transmittable fiber which has excellent heat resistance and obviates the decrease in the transmission loss of light even in use environment of >=120 deg.C is thereby obtd.
