Abstract
PURPOSE:To obtain the glass fiber of superior heat resistance which does not cause any transmission loss by providing the first and second silicone resin covering layers composed primarily of the specified polysiloxane to the glass fiber for optical transmission. CONSTITUTION:A glass fiber 1 has the first covering layer 5 which consists of the silicone resin composed primarily of curable organopolysiloxane containing phenyl groups having a refractive index higher than the refractive index of the outermost layer and the second covering layer 6 which consists of the silicone resin composed primarily of curable organopolysiloxane containing fluorines such as trifluoroalkyl groups. With this constitution, transmission loss does not increase even if the fiber is left standing at a temperature of 160 deg.C for more than 30 days.
