Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the durability and reliability as an ion selective electrode by using beta alumina ceramics as an ion sensitive body and coating the surface thereof with an ion sensitive glassy film. CONSTITUTION:The ion sensitive body 1 is produced by subjecting beat alumina powder to press forming and burning, then polishing one main face thereof to a specular surface. The ion sensitive electrode 6 is produced by forming the glassy film 2 by a high-frequency sputtering method on the polished surface of the ion sensitive body 1, sticking a lead wire 3 which consists of plural fine metal wires and the tips of which are radially bent to the opposite surface thereof by baking of silver paste 4, then fitting the ion sensitive body 1 into a hollow cylinder 5 and fixing the same by an adhesive agent. The beta alumina ceramics is changed in potential by the conduction of the alkali metal ions to be detected and acts as the ion sensitive body. The ion sensitive glassy film prohibits the contact of the liquid to be inspected with the beta alumina ceramics and prevents the elution of the alkali metal in the beta alumina.
