Abstract

PURPOSE:To lengthen service life of a series circuit of a thyristor, a resistor and a series power source, by feeding current having magnitude higher than an inherent critical level through a superconductor. CONSTITUTION:Upon firing of thyristors 27, 127, current is fed from series circuits 25, 125 through thyristors 27, 127 to superconductors 24, 124 and lapped over existing current. When the total current exceeds over a critical current level of the superconductors 24, 124, superconducting state of the superconductors 24, 124 is missed and high resistance is provided to limit load current. Upon missing of superconducting state, Joule's heat is produced in the superconductors 24, 124 to rise the temperature of the superconductors which is not recovered to superconducting state but maintained in high resistance state. A switchgear (not shown) is opened under this state to interrupt current. Consequently, a series body of thyristor, resistor and D.C. power source is not consumped even after repeated use, resulting in a lengthened service life.
