Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a steel plate having excellent low-temp. toughness under high heat economy by casting steel specified in contents of Ti, Mn, S, etc., then subjecting the cast steel to controlled cooling in the state of coarse austenite grains or after rolling which obviates formation of the finer grains of the coarse austenite grains. CONSTITUTION:The steel consisting, by weight %, 0.05-0.20% C, 0.001-0.0250% S, 0.05-0.80% Si, 0.010-0.100% Al, 0.50-2.00% Mn, 0.0025-0.0100% Ni, 0.005-0.100% Ti, and further consisting of 0.0005-0.0060% B and the balance Fe and inevitable components is smelted. After this steel is cast and solidified, the steel is cooled in the state of the Ar3 point temp. without being rolled or after rolling at about <=1.5 reduction ratio in a recrystallization range while the temp. is at the Ar3 point or above. This cooling is executed continuously at 1.5-30 deg.C/sec cooling rate in the temp. range from at least the start of transformation of the fine Widmanstatten-like ferrite plate structure to the end of the transformation.
