Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent substrates of the title liquid crystal display element from generation of short-circuit by arranging a counter electrode not to be superposed on wirings of an active element substrate in a sealing part.
CONSTITUTION: A counter electrode substrate 7 is constituted of a rectangular part 9 facing oppositely to a display part surrounded by a group of picture element electrodes 5 connecting a counter electrode 8 to a thin film transistor TR 2, and four lead parts 10 extending obliquely from four vertices of the rectangle for connecting the rectangular part 9 to the outside. The lead part 10 is extended to the sealing part 13, or the electrode 8 is extended when substrates are connected conductively at the outside of the sealing, to the sealing part 13 or to the outside of the sealing part. In this case, the wirings 3, 4 of an active element substrate 1 is arranged not to superpose in the sealing part 13. Thus, a signal line 3 and a gate line 4 are prevented from facing confrontingly the counter electrode 8, and there is scarce fear for causing short- circuit.
