Abstract

PURPOSE: To make the connection of the electrodes of a multilayer liquid crystal cell and external circuits easy by providing cavities for creating conductive paths to external terminals to the transparent substrates opposing by way of field effect type liquid crystal.
CONSTITUTION: A transparent electrode 3 is disposed nearly over the entire region of the display face on the transparent substrate 2 side of a transparent substrate 1 and a pattern 4 of a figure 1 is drawn. Similarly, a transparent electrode 5 is disposed nearly over the entire region of the display face of the substrate 1 of the substrate 2 and a pattern 6 of a figure 2 is drawn. At this time, a part of electrodes 3, 5 are cut out, by which the conductive paths to the internal terminals of inner electrodes 7, 9 are so disposed as not to mutually overlap. The substrates 1, 2 are superposed by being provided with the staggered parts so as to expose the external terminals of the respective electrodes. When an electric field is applied between the electrode 7 and the electrodes 5, 8, the figure 1 is displayed and when an electric field is applied between the electrode 8 and the electrodes 3, 7, the figure 2 is displayed.
