Abstract

PURPOSE:To avoid the difference in printing density independently of the video signal system, without requiring the selection of the video signal system and the adjustment of an output voltage, by discriminating the system of television video signals, controlling the feeding pitch of papers and, changing time period of power supply to heat generating elements thereby to control the printing density. CONSTITUTION:Upon depression of a start button, CPU 5 detects the pulse width of a vertical synchronizing signal VS of video signal and accordingly detects the system of the video signal. Then, CPU 5 changes the pulse width of a pulse signal PT, in compliance with the PAL/NTSC, which drives each of heat generating elements of a thermal head 8. In a memory 5a attached to CPU 5, there are stored data T2 indicating the pulse width in the case of PAL system and data T1 indicating the pulse width in the case of NTSC system. When PAL system is detected, the pulse signal PT having the pulse width indicated by the data T2 is outputted to the thermal head 8. On the other hand, in the case of NTSC system detected, the pulse signal PT having the pulse width indicated by the data T1 is outputted. The pulse width of the data T2 is set to be for the most suitable density of printing. In the data T1, the printing density in the NTSC system is determined to be the same as in the PAL system.
