PURPOSE:To attain recording of stable picture quality by controlling the amount of energy supplied to a heating element corresponding to the time interval in which picture element of one block is obtained, for example, by supplying a small amount of energy to the heating element for small time interval, to quickly control the state of heat storage of a thermal head to an appropriate condition. CONSTITUTION:A group selecting circuit 6 sends make signals sequentially to AND gates A216-A1 in synchronism with the reception of clock pulses (b) which is produced every completion of storing picture signals of one group in a shift register 5.
