Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the corrosion resistance of a clad steel sheet by joining a stainless steel containing Ni, Cr, Mo, C, Si, Mn, P, and S of a specific wt. percentage and hot rolling the clad steel after heating the steel at a prescribed temp. for a prescribed retention time. CONSTITUTION:An austenitic stainless steel containing, by wt., 11.0-15.0% Ni, 18.0-21.0% Cr, >=3.00% Mo, <=0.03% C, 0.05-1.0% Si, 0.05-2.00% Mn, <=0.045% P, <=0.03% S, and N component meeting the requirement shown by the formula I joins to a carbon or a low-alloy steel. The joined steel is heated in the temp. range of 1050-1300 deg.C for a time of >30min and a clad steel sheet is formed by hot rolling. The delta ferrite is completely decomposed and no sigmaphases in the joined stock is generated because an N component holding a prescribed relation to Mo component is contained in the stainless steel. Therefore, the corrosion resistance of the steel is improved.
