Abstract
PURPOSE:To improve the appearance of a finished coated substance by coating a surface of a substance to be coated with an electrodepositing coating composition composed of a specific epoxy-type cationic electrodepositing resin and a nonionic film-forming resin, and then applying thereon a first and a second specific over coatings. CONSTITUTION:An epoxy-type cationic electrodepositing resin A which has a surface tension of 40-60dyn/cm and gives an aqueous bath from which the resin A can be electrodeposited on a cathode upon neutralization of the solution with acid is blended with a nonionic film-forming resin B having a surface tension of 25-45dyn/cm, with the weight ratio of A to B ranging from 60:40-98:2. This cationic electrodepositing coating composition is applied to the surface of a substance to be coated, and then heat-cured. Thereafter, on the cured coating is applied a color coating having a 60-700nm visible light transmission of 5% or less as measured on a film having a thickness of 20mu. Subsequently, another color coating is applied thereon which has a 400-700nm visible light transmission of 30-90% as measured on a film having a thickness of 60mu.
