PURPOSE:To prevent any scattering of luminance which is caused by its deterioration by washing the inner surface of a fluorescent screen with acid aqueous solution to neutralize alkali component included in the fluorescent screen. CONSTITUTION:A fluorescent screen 3 is washed to be neutralized with acid aqueous solution 16 after the fluorescent screen 3 is formed, so that alkali component included in water glass is prevented from remaining in the fluorescent screen 3. Accordingly, luminance of the fluorescent screen 3 is prevented from its deterioration which is caused by alkali component. And also adhesive power between a fluorescent body and a glass valve can be increased and quality of a cathode ray tube can be improved by increasing the content of alkali component in water glass.
