Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove the copper sulfide deposited on the surface of the title copper- activated sulfide-type fluorescent substance completely, and to obtain the emission of high brightness, by washing the substance with a non-toxic aqueoue solution containing ammonium hydroxide and an oxidizing agent.
CONSTITUTION: A sulfide-type fluorescent substance comprising calcined active copper as an activator, emitting light in an electric fiedl, is washed with an aqueous solution containing ammonium hydroxide and an oxidizing agent, preferably hydrogen peroxide, once to three times. Preferably, the substance is further washed with an aqueous solution of an alkali metal polysulfide to exhibit the emission of higher brightness.
