Abstract

PURPOSE:To eliminate a measuring error when the surface of snow is soft, by employing a shorter value of either one of an actually measured peak time and an estimated peak time. CONSTITUTION:The signal detected by an ultrasonic wave transmitter-receiver 1 is compared, corrected and operated by a CPU 4 to measure snow quantity. The correction value proportional to the measured receiving signal is predetermined and added to the beginning time of the receiving signal used for determining the reciprocating required time at the time of the transmission and reception of an ultrasonic wave. When the level of a reflected wave reaches 1/several ten that at a time when there is no snow on a road surface, a correction value determined separately is further subtracted drom the value to which the correction value is added to obtain an estimated peak time. The estimated peak time is compared with an actually measured peak time and the shorter value is set to a peak time and temp. correction is applied thereto.
