Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the detection of a disk size and to facilitate the changeover of a loop gain of a servo by providing a detector consisting of a light emitting part and a light receiving part arranged on both sides of said emitting part in the radial direction of a disk. CONSTITUTION:A light emitting element 2 is provided to face a disk surface part of the mounted disk 1, while a light receiving elements 3a and 3b are disposed on both sides of the light emitting element 2 in the radial direction of the disk 1 respectively, so as to form the detector. Then, output signals of the light receiving elements 3a and 3b are supplied to a logic circuit 5 via their respective amplifiers 4a and 4b, so that discrimination of the output signals is carried out. That is, when either of the output signals is out of discrimination, it is detected that the disk 1 is not mounted, and when the output signal of the light receiving element 3a is not detected, while the output signal of the light receiving element 3b is detected, it is detected that the disk 1 of a size of phi80 is mounted, whereas when both of the output signals are detected, it is detected that the disk 1 of a size of phi120 is mounted. By this method, the changeover of the loop gain of the servo can be facilitated.
