Abstract

PURPOSE:To effectively manufacture a stainless steel having a high-temp. oxidation film excellent in corrosion resistance, by subjecting a stainless steel having a specific composition consisting of C, N, Si, Cr, Al, and Fe to heating treatment in an oxidizing atmosphere at a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:A stainless steel which has a composition consisting of, by weight, <=0.03% C, <=0.025% N, <=1% Si, >10-26% Cr, >1.8-8% Al, and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities and further containing, if necessary, >0.01-0.8%, in total, of Ti and Zr, independently or in combination, and/or one or more kinds among >0.01-0.7% Y, >0.001-0.1% La, and >0.001-0.1% Ce is heated in an oxidizing atmosphere at 600-1300 deg.C. In this heating treatment, a dense alumina-type oxidation film excellent in adhesive strength to the base material and superior in corrosion resistance to stainless steel is formed on the above steel surface. By this method, the stainless steel having the high- temp. oxidation film excellent in corrosion resistance can be obtained.
