Abstract

PURPOSE:To prolong the life of a battery by using a processed paper with its fiber content in a certain range and with fiber orientation in a certain angle to a horizontal plane, thereby increasing the repulsive force and lessening shrinkage at the time of containing electrolyte and at its decreased time. CONSTITUTION:Glass-processed paper containing glass fiber as main component has fiber orientation of an angle 45 deg.-135 deg. to a horizontal plane per unit area of vertical section, and the fiber content in number of pieces is 40-90%. Use of this type of separator provides resistance against shrinkage in the thickness direction, increases the repulsive force, and eliminates risk of thickness decay, to ensure that close contact of the electrode plate with separator is maintained at the time of decreased electrolyte.
