Abstract

PURPOSE:To display many words on a message display column by replacing the display of a character string which is common among homonym words with a special image pattern at and after the word following the word display first. CONSTITUTION:A dictionary storing device 2, a display device 3 and a keyboard 4 are connected to a KANA (Japanese syllabary)/KANJI (Chinese characters) converter 1. The converter 1 also contains a font memory which converts character codes into an image pattern of characters. The font memory includes a special image pattern meaning 'ditto' and this pattern is read out when the same character string as that contained in the preceding words is detected out of a character string of the declensional KANA endings of homonyms, etc. For instance, 'SHIMERU' (KANA) is displayed in a special image pattern (...) equivalent to one character at and after first 'SHIMERU' (KANJI and KANA), that is, in three different types of 'SHIME...'
