Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent photographic paper from stain at the edge due to soaking of developing soln. by incorporating alkyl ketene dimer and polyaluminium hydroxide into the raw paper. CONSTITUTION:Alkyl ketene dimer and polyaluminium hydroxide are incorporated into raw paper for photographic paper. The alkyl ketene dimer to be used is one having alkyl group having 8-30 carbon atoms, pref. 12-18 carbon atoms. Suitable polyaluminium hydroxide is one having a structure expressed by {Al(OH)3}n.AlCl3, wherein (n) is pref. 19-21. Further, the alkyl ketene dimer and the polyaluminium hydroxide are pref. to be added to the materials of the raw paper. Furthermore, internal additives used generally in paper manufacture such as sizing agent, reinforcing agent, fixing agent, preservative, filler, dye, antistatic agent, and surface sizing agent may be appropriately incorporated. By this constitution, the produced base is prevented from stain providing superior base for photographic paper.

(Prior art) Conventionally, so-called baryta paper, in which one side of the paper is coated with a baryta layer mainly composed of barium sulfate, has been used as a support for photographic paper, but recently, in order to automate and speed up the development process, Waterproof photographic paper, in which both sides of the base paper are coated with resin, has come into use. However, even when the waterproof photographic paper is used, it is not possible to prevent the developer from permeating through the cut edges of the photographic paper. The developer that permeates through the cut edges cannot be removed by short-term photo processing, and will turn brown due to heat or over time, staining the etched areas of the photo.
The value as a photograph is significantly diminished. In order to prevent this etching stain, attempts have been made to provide the base paper layer with a high degree of size.

Fatty acid soap type sizing agents as shown in JP-B No. 47-26961 @ and alkyl ketene dimers as shown in JP-A-51-132822 have been used as sizing agents for photographic paper supports, but each has drawbacks. have, but are not sufficient. That is, fatty acid soap type sizing agents have drawbacks such as having a low sizing effect on alkali in the developer and being easily affected by the hardness of water when producing base paper. On the other hand, alkyl ketene dimers have a low size effect on the alcohol in the developer,
Furthermore, it has the disadvantage that sufficient sizing properties cannot be obtained unless a relatively large amount of polyamide polyamine epichlorohydrin resin, which is known as a fixing agent, is used, and neither sizing agent is fully satisfactory for use in photographic paper. .

The resin-coated paper produced according to the present invention is produced by a so-called extrusion coating method in which a heated molten resin is cast onto a running base paper in the case of a polyolefin resin, and both sides of the paper are coated with the resin. In the case of a resin that can be cured by electron beams, the resin is applied with a commonly used coater such as a gravure coater or a blade coater, and then the resin is irradiated with electron beams to cure the resin and cover the resin.
