Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a water-based ink which has sufficient lubricity and yet is free from blotting in writing and inferior writing phenomenon due to drip back of an ink, by incorporating a hydroxyphenyl stearate into a water-based ink composition containing a coloring agent and water. CONSTITUTION:The title ink composition contains a coloring agent, water, and a hydroxyphenyl stearate as its essential components. A hydroxyphenyl stearate shown by the formula (wherein x+y=15; Z is an alkali or alkaline earth metal, such as Na, Ca, K, Ba or Li, ammonium, alkylammonium or an amine) is used preferably in an amount of 0.05-8wt% based on the total ink composition.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION (Industrial Field of Application) The present invention relates to a water-based ink composition for ballpoint pens. This eliminates the inability to write due to ink dropback (swallowing), reduces wear on the ball holder due to ball rotation, smoothes out ink flow, and eliminates line skipping during high-speed writing. The purpose was to prevent this phenomenon (the ball does not rotate smoothly, so the ink supply is interrupted, resulting in discontinuous writing lines).

(Prior Art) Conventionally, in ballpoint pens using water-based ink, the ink itself lacks lubricity, so as the ball rotates during writing, the ball seat gradually wears out, inhibiting the rotation of the ball. In order to prevent this problem, inks containing various lubricants such as water-soluble silicone resins, metal salts of fatty acids, etc. have been proposed.

(Problems to be solved by the present invention) However, ink compositions using these lubricants do not have sufficient lubricity, or even if the lubricity is sufficient, the surface tension of the ink decreases. As a result, practicality has not been satisfied due to the occurrence of handwriting blurring and poor writing phenomena (such as swallowing) due to ink dropback.

(Means for Solving the Problems) As a result of extensive research to solve the above-mentioned problems, the present inventors have found that the present invention provides sufficient water-based ink without causing handwriting bleeding or swallowing phenomena. This made it possible to impart lubricity. That is, by blending hydroxyphenyl stearate represented by the following general formula into an aqueous ink composition containing a colorant and water, sufficient lubricity can be imparted without extremely reducing the surface tension. This significantly improves the writing performance of ballpoint pens.

As is clear from Table 1 above, the ink containing the hydroxyphenyl stearate of the present invention can significantly extend the writing distance of a water-based ballpoint pen without causing handwriting blurring or poor swallowing. It also prevents the line skipping phenomenon during high-speed writing. Furthermore, the writing performance can be further improved by using a lubricant such as a naphthenic acid metal salt.
