Abstract

PURPOSE:To permit treatment in the time suitable for a metallic strip by passing the metallic strip in a vertically long treating liquid vessel of a chemical conversion treatment zone and constituting the treating liquid vessel in such a manner that the level of the treating liquid can be varied. CONSTITUTION:The metallic strip 7 in a phosphate treatment zone 11 of the chemical conversion treatment is continuously passed and immersed in the treating liquid in the vertically long treating liquid vessel 12 by a feed roller 12, a delivery roller 13 and a guide roller 15, by which the strip is subjected to the chemical conversion treatment. An auxiliary vessel 16 communicating with the vessel 12 by a pipe 18 is disposed to said vessel and is connected thereto by pipes 17a-17c of different levels. The level of the treating liquid in the vessel 12 is adjusted by opening any of the valves of the pipes 17a-17c to set the immersion time suitable for the strip 7. The treating liquid circulated by a pump 19 is further adjusted by selecting and opening valves 21a-21c corresponding to the level of the treating liquid, by which the uniform chemical conversion treatment is executed.
