DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION The present invention relates to a cylinder block for a multi-cylinder engine, and particularly to one provided with a cooling water passage for circulating cooling water in the direction in which the cylinders are arranged.

Generally, in the cylinder block of a multi-cylinder engine, a cooling water passage is provided around the plurality of cylinders to circulate cooling water in the direction in which the cylinders are arranged, so that the cylinder block heated by combustion heat from the cylinders is kept at an appropriate temperature. It is designed to cool down. However, since adjacent cylinder bores receive heat from both cylinders, cooling is insufficient, and the cooling around the cylinders becomes uneven, creating a temperature difference around the cylinders, and as a result, the cylinders become deformed. However, there were problems such as compression leaks and an increase in oil consumption due to lubricating oil flowing into the combustion chamber.

そのため、従来、例えば実開昭52−113105号公

Therefore, conventionally, as shown in Japanese Utility Model Application Publication No. 52-113105, a bypass passage was provided between adjacent cylinder bores to communicate the cooling water passages on both sides along the cylinder arrangement direction. A cooling device has been proposed.

However, in this proposal, convection occurs in the bypass path between the cylinder bores due to the cooling water flowing in from the cooling water passages on both sides, so in reality, the cooling water does not flow sufficiently through the bypass path, and the cooling effect is lost. The drawback is that it cannot be raised sufficiently.

In addition, in order to increase the cooling effect between the cylinder bores, it is possible to increase the passage area by increasing the width or height of the bypass passage, but for reasons of strength, the wall thickness between the cylinder bores cannot be made thinner than a certain level. The length or height of the cylinder block in the cylinder arrangement direction becomes large, making it difficult to implement due to space constraints.

Therefore, the present invention has been made in view of the above points, and is a cylinder block of a multi-cylinder engine having cooling water passages provided around a plurality of cylinders and circulating cooling water in the direction in which the cylinders are arranged. By forming the cooling water passages on both sides along the cylinder bores independently so that they intersect with each other without merging between adjacent cylinder bores, the cooling water can flow smoothly between the cylinder bores without causing convection. It is an object of the present invention to provide a cylinder block for a multi-cylinder engine in which the flow rate is doubled, thereby increasing the cooling effect between the cylinder bores and uniformly cooling the area around the cylinders.

Two cooling water passages 6a and 6b are provided around each of the cylinders 2a to 2d of the cylinder block body 1 to circulate cooling water in the arrangement direction of the cylinders 2a to 2d (in the left-right direction in the figure). . One cooling water passage 6a runs from one end (left end in the figure) of the cylinder block body 1 to the first cylinder 2.
After going around one side in the cylinder arrangement direction of a,
It passes through the cylinder bore gap 3a between the first cylinder 2a and the second cylinder 2b, goes around the other side of the second cylinder 2b in the cylinder arrangement direction, and then passes through the cylinder bore gap 3b between the second cylinder 2b and the third cylinder 2c. It is formed to reach one side of the third cylinder 2c in the cylinder arrangement direction, and thereafter meander in the same manner to reach the other end (the right end in the figure) of the cylinder block body 1, and the other cooling water passage 6b is ,
After going around the other side of the first cylinder 2a in the cylinder arrangement direction from one end of the cylinder block main body 1, it goes under the one cooling water passage 6a between the cylinder bores 3a between the first cylinder 2a and the second cylinder 2b. It passes through, goes around one side of the second cylinder 2b in the cylinder arrangement direction, and further extends between the cylinder bores 3 between the second cylinder 2b and the third cylinder 2c.
b passes above one of the cooling water passages 6a, reaches the other side of the third cylinder 2c in the cylinder arrangement direction, and thereafter meanders in the same manner to reach the other end of the cylinder block body 1. ing. In other words, the cooling water passages 6a and 6b on both sides along the cylinder arrangement direction are formed independently so as to cross each other without merging between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c. Furthermore, between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c, each cooling water passage 6
A and 6b are formed so that the height of the passages is approximately halved and the area of the passages is approximately halved.

Therefore, in the cylinder block A having the above-mentioned configuration, the cooling water passages 6a and 6b on both sides along the cylinder arrangement direction are arranged independently so that they intersect with each other without merging between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c. In addition, since the passage area is approximately halved, each cooling water passage 6a, 6b
The cooling water flows smoothly between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c, and the flow rate of the cooling water flowing between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c is approximately doubled, and the cooling water flow is throttled to approximately double the flow rate. As a result, the cooling effect between the cylinder bores 3a to 3c is sufficiently enhanced, and the periphery of the cylinders 2a to 2d is uniformly cooled. Therefore, due to this uniform cooling, deformation does not occur in the cylinders 2a to 2d, and durability can be improved.

In the above embodiment, two systems of cooling water passages 6a,
6b is provided, but the two cooling water passages 6a and 6b are connected at the other end of the cylinder block body 1.
It may also be used as a system cooling water passage. In addition, each of the two cooling water passages is formed in a wavy shape so that the wave head is located between the cylinder bores on one side or the other side in the cylinder arrangement direction, so that they intersect with each other without merging between the cylinder bores. You can also do this. In short, the cooling water passages on both sides along the cylinder arrangement direction may be formed independently so that they intersect with each other without merging between the cylinder bores.

Furthermore, in the above embodiment, the cylinder block of a four-cylinder engine was described, but the present invention is applicable to a two-cylinder engine.
Of course, the present invention can also be applied to cylinder blocks of various multi-cylinder engines such as 6-cylinder engines.

As explained above, according to the cylinder block of the multi-cylinder engine of the present invention, the cooling water can flow between the cylinder bores smoothly and at approximately twice the flow rate without causing convection. The effect can be sufficiently enhanced to ensure uniform cooling around the cylinder, thereby preventing deformation of the cylinder and improving durability.
