A cross hammer type dot printer is provided with a rotating drum facing the print head, and this rotating drum is provided with a plurality of parallel ridges extending in the axial direction on its outer circumferential surface, and the print head is substantially in contact with the ridges. The printer is equipped with printing hammers that extend in a direction that intersects with the paper and face each other. A dot is formed by the cooperation (collision) between the printing hammer and the raised portion. That is, the ridge changes its cross position relative to the print hammer in the column (vertical) direction as the rotating drum rotates, and the print hammer changes its cross position in the row (horizontal) direction depending on the spacing of the print head. be able to. The rotation of the rotary drum and the spacing of the print head are performed in parallel, and at this time, by selectively driving the print hammer, the print hammer collides with the ridge and the recording medium is struck at the intersection (collision) position of the two. It is designed to form dots on the surface.

In FIG. 1, a rotating drum 1 is continuously driven to rotate, for example, in a counterclockwise direction, and has a plurality of raised portions 2 on its outer peripheral surface. The rotating drum 1 has a length equal to or longer than the width of the recording medium 3, and has a raised portion 2 extending parallel to the axial direction over its entire length. The print head 5 , which faces the rotating drum 1 via the recording medium 3 and the ink ribbon 4, is constructed as follows.
The carriage 6 of the print head 5 is attached to two guide shafts 7.
A support plate 9 is fixed to the carriage 6 through screws 8. The two printing hammers 10, 10a extend in a direction substantially supporting the raised portion 2, and are arranged in opposite postures.
Since their support structures and electromagnetic drive devices are exactly the same, one of the printing hammers 10 will be described, and the other printing hammer 10a will be given a lower case suffix a to the corresponding reference numerals. The printing hammer 10 is fixed to the tip of a movable yoke 11, and the movable yoke 11 is fixed to the tip of a leaf spring 12. The leaf spring 12, together with a spacer plate 13 and a front yoke 14, is fixed to the support plate 9 via a pin 15. An annular permanent magnet 16 and a cap-shaped rear yoke 17 are fixed to the back surface of the front yoke 14. A columnar center yoke 18 is provided at the center of the bottom of the rear yoke 17 and protrudes toward the center of the front yoke 14. The rear part of the movable yoke 11 passes through the center hole of the front yoke 14 and faces the front surface of the center yoke 18, and the movable yoke is 11 is magnetically attracted to the front surface of the center yoke 18 against the spring force of the leaf spring 12. A release coil 19 is wound around the central yoke 18, and by applying a current to the release coil 19, the magnetic flux can be canceled out. As a result, the movable yoke 12 is released from being biased by magnetic attraction with the center yoke 18, and the printing hammer 10 moves forward by the spring force of the leaf spring 12 and collides with the protrusion 2 of the rotating drum 1. .

FIG. 2 shows the relative relationship between the tips of the printing hammers 10, 10a and the rotating drum 2,
The printing hammers 10, 10a are aligned horizontally with respect to the raised portion 2 due to the continuous spacing of the printing head 5 .
In parallel with this, the raised portion 2 is moved by the printing hammer 10, due to the rotation of the rotating drum 1.
The opposing position changes in the column (vertical) direction with respect to 10a. From the relationship of the relative transition of the opposing positions of the printing hammers 10, 10a and the raised portion 2, the printing hammers 10, 1
0a is actually inclined at a predetermined angle with respect to the raised portion 2.

FIG. 3 shows an example of the character "A" in the dot matrix formed by this printer. , and n=1 in this embodiment). Both printing hammers 10,1
The driving timing of 0a is alternately driven with an interval period of time required for the raised portions 2 to move through the vertical pitch Pv of the dot matrix. That is, when the raised part 2 is in the first row position in FIG. 2, the printing hammer 10 is driven, and then the raised part 2 is in the second
When the line position is reached, the printing hammer 10a is driven,
Thereafter, the printing hammers 10 and 10a are driven alternately in the same manner. That is, when one printing hammer 10 is responsible for forming dots on odd-numbered lines, the other printing hammer 10a is responsible for forming dots on even-numbered lines. To explain in more detail, two rows of dots separated by n rows correspond to the printing hammers 10, 10a.
At this time, the printing hammer 10 selectively forms dots on odd-numbered lines, and the printing hammer 10a selectively forms dots on even-numbered lines. After the hammer 10 forms dots on odd-numbered lines,
Dots are formed in even-numbered rows one column after the other. In FIG. 3, ⓓ indicates a dot formed by the printing hammer 10, and ⓓ indicates a dot formed by the printing hammer 10a, respectively.

According to the present invention described in detail above, in a cross hammer type dot printer, characters, etc. are formed using the main printing hammer, so the printing speed increases, and at this time, both printing hammers are not driven at the same time but alternately. Therefore, the peak value of the drive current remains the same as when there is only one printing hammer, and therefore there is no need to change to a large-capacity power supply circuit. Furthermore, the relative relationship between the print hammer of the print head and the raised portion of the rotating drum remains the same as when there is only one print hammer, so the design is easy. Also, since both printing hammers are not driven at the same time, noise is low.
