The present invention relates to a heat shield material for melting low melting point metals, which is necessary when melting relatively low melting point metals or low melting point alloys. Conventionally, heat shielding materials have been used for the floor, side walls, ceiling, etc. of melting furnaces. In addition, heat shielding materials are also used for metal line sensing floats, metal outlet ports (tap holes or drain holes), and even metal transfer troughs, ladles, etc. Hereinafter, conventional heat shielding materials will be explained using molten aluminum as an example of a low melting point metal. First, a method for manufacturing aluminum will be explained. The crushed bauxite ore is processed in an autoclave while blowing caustic soda and steam. The aluminum hydroxide thus obtained is calcined at approximately 1200°C to produce alumina (trialuminum dioxide,
Al 2 O 3 ). Next, this alumina is mixed with cryolite or aluminum fluoride and melted and electrolyzed in an electrolytic bath. Molten aluminum then accumulates at the cathode at the bottom of the electrolyzer. This molten aluminum is taken in a vacuum ladle. Aluminum is thus produced. The components of the produced molten aluminum are adjusted as necessary. The composition adjustment of molten aluminum is
It is carried out in a reverberatory furnace. Heavy oil or gas is used as a heat source. There are several types of reverberatory furnaces, but only one type of furnace is used. Additionally, a rotary furnace similar to a copper converter may be used as the furnace. Furthermore, a vacuum degassing furnace may be used to remove gases containing hydrogen and the like. A high alumina fired refractory with an alumina content of about 80 to 85% (weight %) is usually used for the lining of a furnace in which molten aluminum or molten aluminum alloy is placed. Silicon carbide (SiC) refractories are sometimes used for tap holes and drain holes in furnaces. The quality of molten aluminum or aluminum alloy metal whose composition has been adjusted may be further improved. Additionally, the temperature of molten metal may be adjusted for casting. In such cases, a so-called holding furnace is provided. A reverberatory furnace type furnace is used as the holding furnace. Therefore, a high alumina fired refractory is also used in this case. In addition, as in the case of melting other metals, an induction electric furnace is sometimes used as a holding furnace. In this case, high alumina ramming material is generally used. In order to maintain the temperature of the molten aluminum stored in the holding furnace, a spherical or hemispherical molded body is sometimes floated on the molten aluminum as a lid.
As the spherical or hemispherical molded body, for example, a calcium silicate material or a calcium silicate material containing inorganic fibers is used. Now, the alumina-silica fired refractories mentioned above have a large number of pores. Since molten aluminum has a low viscosity, it easily penetrates into the pores of fired refractories. The refractory properties of high alumina refractories have no problem with molten aluminum. However, the molten aluminum that has entered the pores is highly activated. As a result, aluminum and silica are substituted, and silicon components are eluted into the molten aluminum. In particular, free silica (free SiO 2 ) most aggressively replaces aluminum. For this reason, measures have been taken to prevent the presence of free silica in the refractory raw materials as much as possible, or to generate structurally stable mullite (3Al 2 O 3 2SiO 2 ) crystals by firing the refractories at high temperatures. is being carried out. Examples of refractories that are fired at high temperatures include ALZIT-U and ALZIT manufactured by Toshiba Ceramics Corporation.
-R and ALZIT-S (both are trademarks of high alumina bricks), and they have considerable effects. However, it is impossible to completely eliminate free silica from the raw materials. Moreover, no matter what you do, the porosity of refractories is around 20%. Furthermore, even if all free silica can be eliminated, mullite is not completely free of wetting to molten aluminum. Therefore, the reality is that a reaction between mullite and molten aluminum is unavoidable. Boron nitride (hereinafter abbreviated as BN) molded bodies are generally known as a conventional heat shielding material that is difficult to wet with molten metal. BN molded bodies are used for liquid level sensing floats, tap out holes, stirring propellers, etc. However, since the BN molded body is extremely expensive, when the BN molded body is used as a refractory for a melting furnace, it costs a lot of money. at least
There is no record of widespread use of BN molded bodies as refractories for melting furnaces. On the other hand, sprays containing BN powder sealed in a pressurized container together with some organic binder have been commercially available. Additionally, coating materials made by mixing BN powder with an organic or inorganic binder that can be applied by dipping or brushing have been commercially available. However, since BN is essentially a material that is difficult to sinter, even if you spray BN powder onto the object,
BN powder simply adheres to the object via an organic binder. For this reason, there is no means to retain the BN powder when the temperature exceeds the decomposition temperature of the organic binder. Therefore, for example, when BN powder is sprayed onto the metal contact refractories of a metal melting tank, the BN powder easily flows out. Furthermore, in the case of a coating material of BN powder using an inorganic binder, the BN powder flows out relatively easily until the inorganic binder is firmly sintered. Even if the binder is strongly sintered with the object in a short period of time, the difference in coefficient of thermal expansion between the BN powder coating layer and the object generally causes the coating layer to crack and eventually peel off. It is. Due to these circumstances, BN powder has not been recognized as being very effective as a long-term heat shielding material. In addition to BN, alumina silicate fibers (generally Al 2 O 3 /SiO 2 = about 50/50) have been known as heat shielding materials that are difficult to wet with molten aluminum. Heat shielding materials have also been developed that are made by mixing organic or inorganic binders with alumino-silicate fibers and ramming them on-site. LDS manufactured by Toshiba Monoflux Co., Ltd. is an example of such a material.
Moldable-T (a trademark for an amorphous lining material made by wet mixing bulk fiber with an inorganic material and a small amount of organic binder). The trough from the aforementioned holding furnace to the shaping mold via the distributor is made of such a heat shielding material. However, alumino-silicate fibers, which are normally glassy, gradually turn into mullite when heated above about 900°C. It is known that cristobalite (SiO 2 ) crystallizes when heated further. For this reason, even heat shielding materials using alumino-silicate fibers cannot avoid reactions with molten aluminum. The present invention has been made in view of the above-mentioned circumstances, and an object of the present invention is to provide a heat shield material for melting low-melting point metals that is difficult to wet with molten metal, has a long life, and prevents BN powder from floating to the surface. The heat shield material for melting low melting point metals of the present invention is a heat shield material used when melting metals, which contains alumino-silicate fibers and an inorganic binder as main components, and boron nitride powder as a subcomponent. A heat shielding material for melting low melting point metals, characterized in that the content of uniformly blended boron nitride powder is 5% or more and 20% or less based on the total dry weight of the main components. As this inorganic binder, colloidal silica, colloidal alumina, aluminum phosphate, etc. can be used. Alumino-silicate fibers are superior to other refractories by more than an order of magnitude in the three energy-saving elements of bulk specific gravity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity. In addition, as mentioned earlier, BN powder is difficult to wet with molten metal. For reference, Table 1 shows a comparison of the three energy saving factors of alumino-silicate fibers and other various refractories. The heat shielding material of the present invention combines the respective characteristics of alumino-silicate fiber and BN powder. However, alumino-silicate fiber, BN
Simply coating or spraying each powder has its limitations. The heat shielding material of the present invention can be manufactured, for example, as follows. First, a slurry is made by dispersing a material whose main components are alumino-silicate fibers and an inorganic binder in water or the like. Then, a predetermined amount of BN powder is dispersed in this slurry and molded (molding may be performed by vacuum molding in which the slurry is sucked and dehydrated into a mold). In this way, the heat shielding material of the present invention in which the BN powder is uniformly incorporated into the gaps between the alumino-silicate fibers is manufactured. The residual amount of BN powder can be adjusted as desired depending on the properties of the slurry. The amount of BN powder blended is preferably 5% (external percentage, the same applies hereinafter) based on the total weight. For example, when the total weight is 105g, 5g is divided into 5%. If the blending amount of BN powder is less than 5%, the effect is not so great. In addition, if the amount of BN powder is too large, the uniform adhesion of BN powder may be impaired during vacuum forming.
Alternatively, after applying the heat shielding material of the present invention, excess BN powder may float to the surface. Therefore, the amount of BN powder blended is preferably 20% or less based on the total weight. Hereinafter, the present invention will be described in more detail with reference to Examples. Example 1 BN powder was added to a mixture of 24.75 parts of alumino-silicate fiber and 74.50 parts of colloidal silica and 0.75 parts of polymer flocculant at the respective ratios shown in Table 2 and stirred. In this way, a viscous heat shielding material of the present invention was prepared. BN powder has a purity of 90
% or more, the particle size was finer than 325 mesh. The alumino-silicate fiber used was Fiberfrax (trademark for alumino-silicate fiber) manufactured by Toshiba Monofrax Corporation. Colloidal silica is SI-40 manufactured by Catalysts Kagaku Kogyo Co., Ltd.
(Colloidal Silica trademark) was used. The polymer flocculant used was FN-10 (trademark of polymer flocculant). The heat shielding material of the present invention was stamped all over the inside of the metal frame, dried for about 30 minutes using an acetylene burner, etc., and aluminum was placed inside and melted at 90°C. Then, after pouring out the molten aluminum, 60
The condition of the heat shielding material of the present invention after time-drying was investigated.
The results are shown in Table 2. Example 2 A sphere with a diameter of about 5 cm was molded from the viscous heat shielding material of the present invention. The proportions of aluminosilicate fiber, colloidal silica and polymer flocculant are the same as in Example 1. The amount of BN powder mixed was varied as shown in Table 3. This sphere was dried at 200°C for 30 minutes and put into the metal line of an aluminum holding furnace to form a lid. The condition of the sphere was then examined after 60 hours at 900°C. The results are shown in Table 3. For comparison, test number 6 and test number 7 were also conducted in the same manner. In test number 6, BN powder was sprinkled on the surface of the sphere to which no BN powder was added (that is, the one in test number 1) and dried. Drying was performed at 200°C for 30 minutes. Test number 7 is a spherical calcium silicate ball conventionally used as a lid. Example 3 Approximately 30 mm of the viscous heat shielding material of the present invention was stamped onto the lining of a calcined fired brick and dried for 30 minutes with an acetylene burner. The fire resistance of the shad fired brick was SK-32. Aluminum was placed in a furnace made of this sintered brick and melted at 900°C for 150 hours. The condition of the heat shield material after use was then investigated. The result is the fourth
Shown in the table. For comparison, test numbers 3 and 4 were also conducted in the same manner. Test No. 3 used SK-32 calcined fired brick for the lining. Thermal barrier material is not stamped. Test No. 4 used a mullite-based high-temperature fired refractory of No. SK-40 or higher as the lining. Thermal barrier material is not stamped. As the mullite high-temperature fired refractory, ALZIT (trademark for high alumina brick) manufactured by Toshiba Ceramics Co., Ltd. was used. Example 4 A heat shielding material of the present invention was produced by mixing BN powder in the ratio shown in Table 5 with so-called coating cement manufactured by Toshiba Monoflux Corporation. Coating cement is made by pulverizing alumino-silicate fibers into lengths approximately three times the diameter of the fibers and mixing them with an inorganic binder and a thickener. This inorganic binder is colloidal silica. The heat shielding material of the present invention produced in this way is applied to the molten metal side hot tube to a thickness of about 3 mm,
It was dried at 200°C for 30 minutes. A molten metal thermometer tube coated with this heat shielding material was immersed in an aluminum melt at 900°C to examine the status of the heat shield material of the present invention. The results are shown in Table 5. As is clear from Tables 2 to 5, the heat shield material for melting low melting point metals of the present invention is very difficult to wet with molten metal. As a result, the heat shield material for melting low melting point metals of the present invention does not cause peeling and has a very long life.
BN powder does not float on the surface of the heat shield material for melting low melting point metals of the present invention, and BN powder does not mix with molten metal. Furthermore, uniform adhesion of BN powder is possible during vacuum forming. Use of the heat shielding material for melting low melting point metals of the present invention also results in cost savings. Furthermore, the heat shielding material of the present invention can be easily manufactured.
