The black level is applied to the -Vf terminal via the black level adjustment volume VR2, and the black level is applied to the +Vf terminal of the video input terminal Vi.
n is quantized between +Vf and -VfO. In this quantization method, as shown in Figure 4, even if there is some dirt A on the background when reading a document, the background is detected using a peak hold value, and this is used as a reference (white data) to determine the difference between the black level and the background. Since it is quantized, only the text information can be read clearly.

It was not possible to handle cases where the background could not be ignored, and it was not possible to read clearly.

O converts the original from optical to electrical to obtain an analog signal, and amplifies this signal to a level that can be easily processed by the amplifier 11.
The signal is input to the A/D converter 12, quantized, and output as a digital quantity Do~5. During this quantization, when reading character information, the peak hold circuit 13 detects the background level, sets it as a white level, and applies it to the +Rf terminal of the A/D converter via the switching circuit 14. The black level is specified by the black level specifying circuit 15, which determines the density of the black level, and its output is sent to the A/D converter.
It is applied to the -Rf terminal of the converter. Next, for image reading, first switch the switching circuit 14, read the white level of the reference area (the white level used for auto shading), and store the A/D converter output at that time in the latch 16. Based on this, when reading an image original, this latch output is converted into an analog signal by the D/A converter 17, and is added to the +Rf terminal as a white level for quantization. Note that the white level of the reference area is stored in C.
This is because the input data of the A/D converter 12 varies due to variations in the output level of 0DIO and the gain of AMPII, so the +Rf input cannot be fixed. If it is fixed, the configuration will be as shown in Figure 2. .
